Global law enforcement operations seized $200 million in encryption assets and cash and arrested 270 people.
According to Gate News bot, Decrypt reported that the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday that a global law enforcement operation has seized $200 million in cash and digital assets, and arrested 270 suspects in 10 countries/regions.
Authorities stated that the coordinated strike operation codenamed "Operation RapTor" has dismantled the darknet drug network that fuels the fentanyl epidemic, marking the largest seizure operation of the J-CODE initiative to date.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Justice on Thursday, authorities seized over two tons of drugs, 144 kilograms of fentanyl-laced substances, 180 firearms, and digital assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
This operation was led by the U.S. Department of Justice in collaboration with the Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement Team, coordinating with Europol and dozens of international agencies, targeting drug suppliers and markets in Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
J-CODE was established in 2018 with the aim of investigating, combating, and dismantling criminal organizations that rely on the internet or advanced technology to traffic opioids.
"This historic international operation seized firearms, deadly drugs, and illegal funds, which will save lives," said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement. "Criminals cannot rely on computer screens to be perfectly invisible, nor can they seek refuge on the dark web."
