SWIFT is testing XRP and HBAR coins for cross-border payments.

SWIFT is experimenting with the integration of Ripple (XRP) and Hedera (HBAR) "as part of efforts to enhance its cross-border payment infrastructure." These two digital assets align with the system's objectives due to their compatibility with ISO 20022 financial messaging standards.

SWIFT testing will initially focus on two specific technologies: Ripple On-Demand Liquidity (ODL), which uses XRP as an intermediary currency to accelerate transfers, and the hashgraph-based consensus mechanism of Hedera, known for its high throughput and energy efficiency.

In comparison, traditional SWIFT transfers can take from 1 to 5 business days and cost between $10 and $50 per transaction, while transfers with XRP are typically confirmed within 3–5 seconds and cost about $0.0002. Meanwhile, Hedera can process up to 10,000 transactions per second.

Recently, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated at the XRP Ledger Apex 2025 event in Singapore that the XRP Ledger could provide 14% of SWIFT's global liquidity within 5 years.

Today, SWIFT has two components - messaging and liquidity. Liquidity is owned by banks. I think less about messaging and more about liquidity. If you control all the liquidity, it's good for XRP. So in five years, I would say it's 14%, - said the top manager.
XRP-1.95%
HBAR-2.84%
