On June 17, Jin10 reported that, according to Reuters, reporters found that the U.S. military has withdrawn from two bases in northeastern Syria, accelerating the pace of withdrawal. The commander of the U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish forces stated that this increases the possibility of the Islamic State making a resurgence. Reuters reporters visited these two bases in the past week and found them mostly deserted, guarded by small units of the Syrian Democratic Forces led by the Kurds. The cameras used at the bases occupied by the U.S.-led coalition have been dismantled, and the surrounding barbed wire has begun to sag. A Kurdish politician living in one of the bases stated that there are no American troops left there. The guards of the self-defense forces at the second base indicated that the troops had recently withdrawn but refused to disclose the specific time.
